Cedars Business Services, LLC, which is a third-party collection agency, does business under the name Cedar Financial. Cedar Financial specializes on international and domestic debt collection in education and healthcare. Cedar Financial was founded in 1991. The company is based in Calabasas (California).
Cedar Financial's website states that they take a consumer-centered approach in debt collection. However, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), has received complaints from consumers. The CFPB is a government agency that protects consumers from abusive, misleading or unfair debt collection practices. Cedar Financial's unconstitutional debt collection practices are the subject of more than 100 complaints to CFPB. Cedar Financial has been accused of these illegal debt collection activities by consumers.
To collect a consumer's debt which is not theirs;
Talking about the debt of the consumer with a third-party in an inappropriate way
Threatening legal action to compel payment
Continue to contact consumers after being asked not to;
Refusal or refusal to prove a debt.
Cedar Financial kept calling the consumer repeatedly, and one consumer sent Cedar Financial a certified letter asking for an end to their contact with the consumer. Cedar Financial continued to phone the consumer for several months despite receiving the letter. Cedar Financial filed a complaint with CFPB. The matter was settled to the consumer's satisfaction.
Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, (FDCPA), and Rosenthal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, (RDCPA), prohibit creditors and debt collectors communicating with you until you have told them in writing to cease communication. The debt collector can only contact you once they have received a request to cease communication. This is to either inform or inform you that they are not seeking to collect the debt. Any other communication is in direct violation of the law.
For these illegal and unethical practices, creditors and debt collectors must be held responsible. Cedar Financial must be held responsible if you are being harassed, subjected, or forced to comply with any of these deceptive or abusive debt collection methods.
